Case Study: Leadership and Talent Development

Situation

A Fortune 500 biotech company needed leadership training for a group of senior engineers whose programming skills surpassed their human-management skills. The company was losing their most experienced and talented programmers to competitors that were known for offering better work environments.

Solution

Because these engineers were analytical and valued hard data, PSP began by introducing the derailer concept from Hogan Assessments to illustrate that the very skills and strengths that helped them succeed as programmers were creating challenges for them as they tried to lead their teams. Using the Myers-Briggs system, PSP coached the engineers on how to leverage their existing skills in abstract thinking, pattern recognition, and creative problem-solving to becoming better at managing and making connections with team members.

Result

The group learned to tap into their innate skills and apply them to their roles as managers. In the year following the program, employee retention for both veterans and new hires had increased by 60%.

“Leveraging their understanding of our culture, Dov Pollack, Allan Silva, and Judah Pollack were pivotal in creating a custom, dynamic training to maintain morale and individual commitment as our business transitioned to San Diego. The combination of their varied personalities, backgrounds and communication styles encouraged dialogue, focus and, most of all, continued engagement by all. We couldn't have been happier!”
